Join us in the Steinberg Room on Monday November 24th at 7PM for the latest program in the Elting Memorial Library's partnership with New Paltz Historical Society. November's speaker is Paul O'Neill and the lecture will be "Ulster County's Forgotten Civil War Hero, George Henry Sharpe." Register to receive an email reminder the day before the program. Registration is optional.

Program Description: "George H. Sharpe - Spy Master, confidant to Generals and Presidents, the man who brought down Tammany Hall.

His intelligence during the summer of 1863 led ultimately to the Battle of Gettysburg and helped seal the fate of the Confederate South. But Ulster County's George Sharpe wore many hats during his lifetime, from Colonel of Ulster County's 120th NY Volunteer Infantry Regiment - the Washington Guard - to inventor of modern military intelligence to the U.S. Marshall that tackled the Boss Tweed Ring.

Come hear about Ulster County's Civil War hero, Gen. George Henry Sharpe."

Speaker Bio: "Paul O'Neill grew up in New Paltz, attending New Paltz High School and pursuing undergraduate studies at SUNY Binghamton. He then attended George Washington University National Law Center, practicing law in New Paltz and then in Kingston for 15 years, including 14 years as an Assistant District Attorney for Ulster County. He is currently the Commissioner of Jurors for Ulster County, serving in that position since 2010 and an amateur historian with a strong interest in our local history."
